Get Your Home Ready To Sell
Before listing your home, there are a few things you should consider to get your home ready for market. Here is a quick list to get you started.
- lEdge, mow and fertilize the lawn. Reseed sparse areas.
- Trim hedges, weed lawns and flowerbeds, and prune trees. Cut back overgrown shrubbery.
- Reseal cracks in foundation, steps, walkways, walls, and patios. Power-wash the exterior siding and walk-ways.
- Clean and align gutters and downspouts; clean the chimney.
- Remove oil stains from the driveway and garage floor. Keep walks and the driveway swept.
- Wash the windows inside and out.
- Hire a cleaning service to thoroughly clean the interior including baseboards and ceiling fans.
- Paint the walls and ceilings off-white or beige for rooms that need a refresh.
- Repair cracks, holes, and damage to plaster, wallboard, wallpaper, paint, and tiles.
- Replace damaged windowpanes, moldings, and woodwork.
- Repair any dripping faucets and shower heads. Unclog slow drains.
- Steam clean carpets, and clean and rejuvenate wood floors.
- Clean out the fireplace and lay some logs in it.
- Mend torn screens. Clean out all window tracks.
- Replace burned-out light bulbs. Use brighter light bulbs. Replace any florescent lights.
- Nail creaking boards or stairs; lubricate squeaking doors.
- Clean all appliances inside and out (especially refrigerator and oven).
- Replace worn toilet seats and put up a new shower curtain.
- Clear all cobwebs from corners and doorways.
- Wash all light switches, handrails, and doorknobs.
Once completed, your house will shine for a potential buyer bringing you a quicker sale in a shorter amount of time.
